The Rhode Island Disaster Medical Assistance Team (RI DMAT) has been activated three times this year already.
  • Central Falls High School has had an active case of tuberculosis and as a result, the RI Department of Health has requested the deployment of RI DMAT personnel and equipment to test school faculty, students, and staff. The team deployed to the high school in January, March, and will again in June to provide this testing.

  • On May 2, 2008 the Team held an Open House at its Headquarters in Coventry, RI to announce the roll-out of the new RI Responds program that is managed by RI DMAT through a cooperation with the Rhode Island Department of Health.  Speakers at the well attended event included: Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts, Director of Health Dr. David Gifford, RI EMA Director David Smith, and RI DMAT Team Leader Tom Lawrence.   • The Cox Communications Rhode Races, a full 26 mile marathon, a half-marathon, and a 5K race were held in RI on Sunday May 4, 2008. The Team deployed its major assets in five locations for the event, and provided medical care to more than 40 patients.

  • Hurricane Gustav 29 August 2008 - RI-1 DMAT, sent a full cache and 35 medical personnel to Texas to aid in the Federal response to Gustav. We also sent 6 members of our logistics team to assist. The team was responsible for an alternate care facility.
